The Hoka Gaviota 6 is a road running shoe that offers a high level of cushioning alongside a high level of anti-pronation support. It is the equivalent of the Hoka Bondi 9 in terms of cushioning, but designed specifically for runners who over-pronate. Support shoes, stability shoes and motion control shoes are often described slightly differently, but they all aim to guide the foot and control excessive inward movement.

When the foot touches the ground, the arch should compress to absorb shock before reshaping as the runner pushes off from the end of the big toe. If the arch does not reshape quickly enough, the runner may push off from the inside of the foot instead. Over time, this repeated movement can contribute to blisters on the inside of the foot, shin pain, pain below the kneecap or discomfort down the outside of the thigh.

The Gaviota 6 is designed to control this motion and guide the foot through the gait cycle so push-off occurs from the end of the big toe. It has a 39mm heel and 33mm forefoot stack, with a 6mm drop that helps reduce heel striking and braking forces. The curved rocker midsole helps maintain a quicker cadence, encourages a more upright posture and reduces over-striding, making the shoe feel smoother and lighter than you might expect from a stability shoe.

Inside the midsole is an H-shaped stability frame made from firmer foam, which cradles the foot and resists excessive inward movement. The updated upper uses an internal ghillie lacing system to hold the foot securely on the midsole, while extra padding around the heel and collar improves comfort. The toe box is also less pointed than before, giving more room for toe movement. In summary, the Hoka Gaviota 6 is a soft, well-cushioned everyday running shoe with the highest level of anti-pronation support in the Hoka range.
